Blogger, Time Out contributor, traveller and linguist, Emilie Pavey, has a quirky appreciation for both the humour and unexpected beauty that surrounds us in Hong Kong. Her blog, The Land of No Cheese, documents her particular view in an unusual way.
Searching for that image of spontaneity, whether it is of a resident snake soup kitchen cat to workers talking on the phone and lighting up on rather high ledges, is a joy for Emilie, who arrived here two years ago. She was struck not only by the grittiness of city life, and the dynamic character of its residents, but also its natural beauty.
Her blog occurs organically, as Emilie prefers to photograph subjects that strike her, collating images thematically later. Her eye for the unusual soon caught the attention of the editors of Time Out Hong Kong where she now writes and photographs a column called Hidden Hong Kong. Documenting the parts of Hong Kong beyond the tourist and expat track, her column, like her blog, celebrates the unusual.
Check out this month’s column about MTR tunnels and don’t miss the Where is this? puzzle (I have no idea!).
