LUCIAN FREUD AT THE NPG LONDON LUCIAN FREUD AT THE NPG LONDON

I would love to see the Lucian Freud exhibition at the National Portrait Gallerywhich just opened. Freud is probably the best British realist painter of the 20th century. He was very much an traditionalist, preferring only to work from life, rather than depend on photographs and sketches. The exhibition consists of 130 of his best works, some of which are on a large scale.

The thing I love to do when viewing his work is to get up close and look at his individual brushstrokes and application of paint. The thickness, blends of colour and texture take on an abstract quality and are so assured. The detail is quite beautiful and beyond any words that I write here. If you are in London, don’t miss it- admission is free so you have no excuse!
