Cool…note to self

Have you ever wondered what you would tell your 14 year old self if you could?  CBS has a popular news segment that asks people do exactly this.

Artist, Chuck Close, was on recently.   He talked about his learning difficulties and developing his approach to art but his most resonant message, for me at least, was this:

INSPIRATION IS FOR AMATEURS, THE REST OF US SHOW UP AND GET TO WORK

Why is this meaningful to me?   Sometimes I get asked why I have my finger in so many pies.    I have my blog, take a few photos, interview people, work on my webstore, source products, talk to designers, work with designers on collaborations,  distribute my own and others brands, design furniture, homewares and jewellery.  Of course, this means that I am actively working most of the time.

Of course it would be easier to stick to just one thing, but I am just not built that way I guess.   I just get on with it: the business and joy of creating something that is finally finding its shape and is going somewhere.

For me, my approach is like Chuck Close: I try not to wait for inspiration to strike, I just go to work.
